My picks for Week 1
of the NFL season (based on my thoughts, my research and what I think ONLY!):
Disclamer: These are my picks and opinions only. If you make picks and/or bet money, favors or whatever based on what is listed below with whomever or wherever, that is on you. If you win, great! Let me know (or even send me a small cut of the profits...lol!) If not, don't bitch. These picks does have 50/50 odds. Better than the lottery. If some team chokes a game due to..whatever...not my fault. I will be mad too.
Disclaimer done: Let the games begin!
Baltimore at Denver: Thursday night on NBC: Denver is a Super Bowl favorite,
Peyton is a future HOF player, blah, blah, blah. Peyton also chokes outdoors,
can’t play well in cold weather and should be kissing his brother’s ass (as far
as who has more SB rings is concerned). Last year’s playoff game proved that.
AFC West teams that are Super Bowl favorites just about always chokes too.
Denver also has issues in their front office and injuries galore already. Oh,
and Peyton must play his brother’s team this year too. Some favorite. Ravens
may be better without Ray and Ed around on D. Now this is Joe Flacco’s team. He
has already made history and won a ring doing things that even the great Peyton
(OR Eli) could not do. Can he do it again? Time will tell.
Ravens 34 Broncos 31.
New England at Buffalo: Both teams are a mess. Patriots have
no receivers or much of a running game. Bills have…less of everything. Patriots
still have their coach and still have Brady…as long as he stays upright. IF he
does, Patriots win with ease. If not…that will be a interesting finish, don’t
you think?
Patriots 27, Bills 20
Seattle at Carolina: Russell Wilson is the real deal. Cam
Newton is a mystery but better than many starting QBs. But he needs a lot of
help, starting at WR and RB. Even with a (bleep) as head coach and no Percy
Harvin, Seattle should win this one. Emphasis on should. If Wilson and/or RB
Marshawn Lynch gets hurt, season over, whether Harvin makes it back for the stretch
run or not.
Seahawks 27 Panthers 24
Cincinnati at Chicago The Bengals are building a good team,
but still have pieces to add. Chicago won 10 games but didn’t make the playoffs
and fired their coach and let their (possible) future HOF MLB leave (meaning
retire). Can this new guy coach? Don't know. The Bears still have a lot of good players, but Cutler is a shaky
brittle starting QB at best, and a head case at worst. But it is week 1.
Chicago is still tough to beat at home, even without snow and wind, so I will take that
in a close one.
And Urlacher can kiss my ass with his BS cable versus DirecTV commercials. Make that money, but don't be fooled. DirecTV rules! (Commercial over).
Chicago 24 Cincinnati 23
Miami at Cleveland: Miami sucks and it is the franchise’s
fault. But they are starting to get better. Cleveland sucks and it is the NFL’s
fault for screwing them years ago. Are they getting better? Doesn’t look like
it. If Cleveland does anything, and finishes with more than 7 wins and/or a
wildcard berth, give their coach…whoever it is Coach of the Year. Period. Reality:
Miami should win because it is September and it won’t be that cold. But let’s
give a true underdog a shot.
Cleveland 24 Miami 23
Minnesota at Detroit: Minnesota is on the rise again.
Peterson is a beast. If anyone will break Dickerson’s rushing yards record, it
will be him. But not this year. Detroit better rebound this year because Calvin
Johnson is also a beast. If anyone will break 2,000 receiving yards in a year
(and better his record from last year), it is him. That can happen this year if
he focuses and not drops passes, even with Stafford throws some ducks into his
double coverage, which he will. Reggie Bush will help the running and passing
game. Can either team make the playoffs? Better beat GB twice, sweep the
division and not choke against everyone else. Since neither team will do all
three…call this a pick em. Sorry, Vikings, I take Megatron in a shootout with a
better QB and a better DL.
Lions 34 Vikings 31.
Kansas City at Jacksonville: KC should win easily. On paper.
Even without the additions they have and new coach Andy Reid. But KC is the
biggest bunch of chokers west of the New York Jets. KC was demolished 2 years
ago due to devastating injuries. Last year with almost everyone back…they were
worse. Reid will make them better…but he cannot overcome the curse on this
team. The Jags are arguably the worst team in this league (and not Oakland
(bleeps!)). If there is going to be an upset by this team, here is a great
candidate for such. So I am going for it since is early. Plus, I am NOT picking
the Jags next week. You know why.
Jags 21 Chiefs 20
Atlanta at New Orleans This will be a war. Lots of points.
Take the over on points. You know the players. You know the stats. Atlanta
likes to choke games too. The Saints have their coach back and still have Drew
Brees and company. Ryan can't run like RGIII. Sorry, Dirty Birds. Saints win at home.
Saints 39 Falcons 38
Tampa Bay at New York Jets Stinker Game number 1. Jets are the worst team in football (other
than the Jags) with the stupidest coach with the biggest mouth (and formerly
belly) around. Glad you are working to be healthier, Rex. Some of this mess on
this team is not your fault…meaning Sanchez, injuries and so on. With that
said, ALL of the dumb (bleep) that has come out of your mouth since you became
coach IS your fault. Tampa wins, with or without (overrated) Revis Island
coming to town. This will be your last year, Coach Ryan. Might as well do it up
now.
Buccaneers 24 Jets 14
Tennessee at Pittsburgh I have no idea what to say about
this game. Will Chris Johnson return to beast mode? Can the Steelers hang with
an old team, no running game less D AND no playmakers left? Maybe and Hell NO!
Even so, I am not sure the Titans can win without at least 150 yards and 2 TDs
from Johnson. Big Ben is still a serviceable QB…but his is beat up and has no
help now. OT and/or a tie would not surprise me in this game. Even Cleveland
may beat these Steelers. Maybe.
Titans 21 Steelers 20
Oakland at Indianapolis The Colts are on the rise. Andrew
Luck is very good. But he isn’t perfect. The Raiders are a mess, but are better
and more importantly, hungrier than most think. The AFC West is overrated this
year, yet the Raiders still can win in this division. Split the division (3 wins) and if they win
more than 5 games outside the division, especially on the road, the Raiders
will be in the playoffs (maybe instead of Denver). Sorry Andrew. The upsets begin here and you
will be the first (of many) to go down.
UPSET SPECIAL!
Raiders 28 Colts 27
Green Bay at San Francisco This is the game to watch on
Sunday. Be glad Ravens/Broncos is tonight and Eagles/Redskins is on Monday
night. You know the players and the stats. Rodgers is great. Colin K will be
great. But the Niners have better overall D and a better RB. Having no WRs
other than Boldin left will be a problem. This should be a Week 16/17 matchup,
not week 1. Oh well. Home team wins because of my Kappa brother Colin K (some
of you may understand the reference. If not, message me and I will explain).
But just barely and possibly in OT.
San Francisco 31 Green Bay 28 (OT)
Arizona at St. Louis These teams will be better in 2013.
Seattle and SF will NOT be able to overlook either team on the schedule. One or
both of these teams may cost one or both of them a division title or maybe even
a playoff berth. Watch the highlights of this game and beware both of these
teams later in the year. Total tossup. This may be another tie game. Rams win
on a FG at the end of regulation or in OT. Sorry, can’t pick Carson Palmer to
win. Sellout.
St. Louis 24 Arizona 21 (OT)
New York Giants at Dallas: Sunday Night on NBC: Schedule-maker gave Dallas the finger, for
once. Would you really pick Dallas to win Week 1 at home versus the Giants? I
didn’t do it last time (when the new stadium was opening on Sunday Night
Football) and was rewarded. Not doing it now. Didn’t expect Dallas to choke
then (was happy, though!), sure they will now. Jerry Jones may have the brain
of a 40 year old…but he has the intelligence of someone much younger. And it
trickled down through the entire organization. Sucks to be you, Dallas fans.
See you on Thanksgiving, Cowboy fans, when the Raider Nation invades Dallas.
Get the dump buttons ready, CBS. You will need them.
New York Giants 30 Dallas 24
Monday Night Football Doubleheader on ESPN. Note the 655/1015pm start times.
Philadelphia at Washington You have seen the hype. Here is
the bottom line. Both teams have a good RB. Washington will use theirs well,
Philly won’t use theirs right. Washington has D. Philly doesn’t. RGIII is back.
Vick is back…until he gets taken out again or fumbles 3 times in one game.
Philly has everything to gain…nothing to lose. Redskins may win this on a late
FG. Enjoy the win. Be glad for a week 5 bye. Hope Cousins is ready to play
Monday. Redskins won’t win in GB unless Rodgers goes down, may not beat Detroit
either and if I were you…don’t play Griffin in Oakland (upset warning…in
advance). Friendly advice, everyone. Preseason wins and losses means nothing. You are welcome.
Redskins 27 Eagles 21.
ESPN? Should have run this game on ABC instead. No one would have cared anyway.
Houston at San Diego Will I stay up late to watch this game?
I guess so. SD is wishing they had dumped Norv Turner 5,4,3,2 and/or 1 years
ago (like I told them to do). Now this franchise and their formerly good QB is
paying the price. This team will be last in the AFC West…not Oakland. Texans
should win this…but old skill players. Foster hurting already. And Schaub…is
Schaub. They win this game. Be worried about the other 13, especially the
division games. Jags don’t count. Oh and SD? Make sure your PK Kaeding makes it
past the opening kickoff this time. Please. Just a thought.
Houston 30 San Diego 20.
Think my picks suck? Send me a reply and tell me why! Good luck to everyone this new NFL season! Football is OFFICIALLY BACK!
