The 2013 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament has begun (Valparaiso is leading 2-0 as I type this), and it is crazy as always. I just finished my brackets (around 10, maybe 12 over 5 or 6 formats) and I settling in to watch. This is the first tourney I am watching at home in 3 years. If I was in South Korea watching this, it would be about 220am local time, Friday right now. If I were in Germany, it would be 520pm on Thursday (and I might have been at work right now...if I had a job). Watching the Madness is different overseas because you would not have as many choices to watch the games. (Almost) no sports bars, you (probably) have to work the next day so you have to really know your times so you can watch your team play. Or you watch by yourself at home, trying to keep the volume down to not disturb your wife's sleep (or not...lol). But the excitement would be the same.
Being home to watch this (for me, I am watching the start in our transitional home, until I have to go pick her up from work, where I will have to listen to the game (whichever is being broadcast) on the radio as I drive) is a joy, since I have no job, right now. But it is still different, since in past years, I could not watch the Thursday/Friday day games because I was working. But it is all good. No matter who you like (or not), or whether you care (or not), take even a small taste of the Madness, both for the men AND for the ladies who start this weekend. You will see some great things, and for those who love this time of year, young and old, there is nothing like it. Not the World Series, not the Stanley Cup (NHL for those who don't know) or the NBA finals, or even the Super Bowl. And the Madness last 3 weeks (really more like 5 weeks). The others last a day, a week, or maybe 10-14 days if it goes the full 7 games. The Madness last much longer, and can be more fun. You think I am wrong. Watch it all....and let me know afterwards if you feel the same. I dare you.
